Generally speaking, we recommend that reverse osmosis filter cartridges should ideally be replaced every 24 to 36 months. Of course, this is only an average. It depends on the quality of the raw water in your area and the amount of water used. That is to ensure that the entire reverse osmosis system is always working at maximum efficiency to ensure your health.
Why should I change the RO filter cartridge on time?
The reason why you may feel that the water you drink is clearer is that the contaminants are intercepted by the cartridge. Everything has its lifespan, you can take the cartridge out for cleaning and do some maintenance in the middle of the process, but to ensure safety, you should eventually replace it with a new one.
What phenomenon means the RO filter cartridge is clogged?
1. The flow of pure water is significantly reduced, and the water tank takes longer to be filled.
2. Rejected water flow increases.
Beyond that, if you notice that your water is starting to smell, you know it's time to check and replace the filter. If you wait to notice a bad taste, you've waited too long. Assuming too much use, RO filter cartridges can grow bacteria and release them into your drinking water.
Traditional reverse osmosis system machines
Depending on your needs, the RO machine you use may have three, four, or five filtration stages.
The first stage is a pre-filter, which removes large particles of debris from the water first, such as slightly larger contaminants like sediment. We recommend replacing it every three to six months.
The second stage is the activated carbon filter, which is sometimes divided into a granular carbon filter and a carbon rod filter, which are highly effective in removing residual chlorine, color, and unpleasant odors from the water. We recommend replacing them every three to six months.
The third stage brings us to our focus today, the RO filter cartridge, which with 0.0001μm filtration accuracy, removes 99.99% of heavy metals including lead, mercury, PFAS, cadmium, and more than 1, 000 kinds of pollutants.
The fourth stage, additional filters, help you improve the taste of your water. We recommend replacing them every 6 to 12 months.
In addition to the importance of RO filter cartridge maintenance and replacement, the remaining stages of cartridge maintenance should not be ignored. These cartridges are generally cheaper, and the diligent replacement will not cause large impurities to enter the RO membrane of the RO filter cartridge.
